Papers, 1799-1885, 1861-1866.

The majority of these items consist of correspondence between Daniel A. Grimsley and Miss Bettie Browning of Culpeper County, Virginia, 1861-1865 concerning camp life and battles. Grimsley enlisted in Company B, Sixth Regiment of Virginia Cavalry, 22 April 1861, and served through the war. The volume is a small notebook containing several pages of memoranda relevant to school tuition and numerous comments on law.

The Grimsley family was from Culpeper County, Virginia. Daniel A. Grimsley, senior, was a county judge; his son used the middle name Amon.
